Starting problem -retitled

I have a 79 f250 that i've put a motor in and was trying to start it today I turned the motor over by touching relay to turn motor over and sparks flew from the ground wire that's hooked to the engine that runs from the battery wondering if anyone could tell me what would cause this

79f250,

Loose connection at ground wire to block. Check to see if it is tight, sounds like it is loose and arcing across the gap.

Also it could be a bad ground wire. It could have an internal break or corrosion causing high resistance. Electrical current likes to take the path of least resistance, and sometimes that can be by traveling throught the air.

Hope this helps.

Exclamation Please Help!!!!

I hope someone out there can help me, I don't know what to do! I have a 79 f250 with a 351m engine and a motorcraft 2150 carb., and I can't figure out why I can't get it to crank. It sounds like it wants to start but never will and I know I'm getting fire to the plugs, and gas to the carb. The hot wire from the starter to the starter solenoid get's the solenoid smoking after maybe a min. or two of turning the engine over don't know if this is somthing that should happen or not. I know the carb. seems to have a little leak on each side of the rod that runs through the carb. that the throttle linkage is on, on one end and something to do with the choke on the other, and there's a thing of some sort on the back right top corner of the carb that it looks like the choke plate has something to do with that's also got a little leak don't know if I need new carb. or what somebody please help!!!!!!! Thanks in advance!!!!

Rebuild kit for the carb costs under 20 usd. so do that first, your gonna have to eventually anyway. Then record your timing and research what the settings were from the factory, adejust as necessary. Next, if your have an in line fuel filter, replace it. after that, and it still doesnt start, run a compression test. If there is more than 15 lbs difference, you need a rebuild also. Try all but the rebuild, and I'm sure things will wortk out for you, one more thing, check how much power your getting from your coil, that is an inexpensive replacement worth the money. While your at it, see if your plug cables are arcing, and if your plugs are fouled. Replace as necessary. GOOD LUCK!

351m

I had a motorcraft carb in my 351m. I ended up junking mine for a new one at advance auto, that one sucked so I then ordered a new intake and 4 barrel from summit (edelbrock) works great and the best $400 I have spent
