trouble with my Gas mileage

I have a 1998 F150 super-cab 4x4 with 97,000 miles and I am only getting 8 or 9 mpg. Does anyone know what the problem might be? It had this problem before I even put the 35" tires on it.

I'd go buy a code reader.... Sounds to me like you've got a sensor issue. Ask in 1997 to present truck forum, not here in the Ford Versus forum..

Could be the big tires. With the stock gears in there chances are is that you are lugging the motor. Some lower gears would put you in a higher rpm, and closer to your correct cruising speed, making you use less of the pedel, making better MPG. Has it always had poor gas milage with the big tires or recently. If it is recent, it is probably an upstream o2 sensor. Easy way to tell that is hook up a code reader, and go into some sort of diag. tools, and see what the curent reading is on the o2 sensors. They should read about 400 to 500 ohms, but no 0 or anything really low, thats how i found out the ones of the chebbie were bad.
