Am going to buy a 2004 V10 350, but heard there may be a 3V version coming out at some point. Just wondering if there was any truth to this? If so, maybe I will wait. Thanks
It will probably improve the the flatness of the torque curve, even though the current one is dang good. They'll do this by including the variable valve timing, similar to the 3V 5.4L in the 150's.
we do some limited durability tests on all the mod motors and find it always a pain in the a-- to remove the spark plugs.currently i removed my rubber boot from an extra 5/8 socket and stuffed it into a 9/16 socket, works good but does anyone make a specific socket for this?we also do drop testing right now on the v10 -3v.checking the integrity on the engine removal brackets.
I feel like an idiot asking this, being a DEALER and all, but where are you folks getting the info on the new V10? Ford tells us dealers NOTHING; I thought maybe someone posting here works at the engine plant, or is doing development work on this new motor. Any confirmed info would be greatly appreciated!

The first I heard of it was from a post on the dieselstop some months back. The guy there mentioned he saw it in some Ford marketing material he had received. The numbers quoted there were the same I saw earlier in this thread. I never did ask him what marketing material he was talking about - not sure how official it was.
I heard about it through Blue Oval News "dot" com.
I tend to take a lot of the "rumors" with a grain of salt.
I'm sure Ford will do it (3V V10). Certainly makes sense. The numbers that I see floating around are the same exact increase in output when the 5.4L got new heads. However, the new 5.4L has a new BLOCK & exhaust, too.
I'm sure the heads gave it most of the increase but the whole engine was basically redesigned. Can't imagine the V10 undergoing such as redesign since they only sell a small fraction of V10s compared to the 5.4 V8.
the biggest issue we have with the 6.8l is the fly by wire throttle and they burn up the trannies too quick.i was under the impression the ratings were 370 hspr/455 torque.find out late this year or early next i suppose.
It looks like the 4.6 is going to get the 3v treatment first. No sign anywhere of the V-10 3v. So far it's just a rumor. Here is something I found on the new 3v plant... http://www.allfordmustangs.com/artma...icle_198.shtml
the throttle is electronically controlled and it's always a headache when we set any of the modular engines up(3v 4.6,5.4 AND 6.8l)because the processors are not calibrated correctly which we have to have a ford engineer come out and correct the problem(always processor related)and we do not have dyno's in durability but we do use trannies.we use the tran. to mock it up in the engine cradle -the trannies are engaged at a idle speed for a short time which the clutches slip, blah, blah, blah.the trannies don't last half as long as they do behind the other modular engines due to the 455 lbs. torque.no.i can't really prove any of this without losing my job so don't ask me where i work.it's coming though in 2005 in the E SERIES AND F-SERIES TRUCKS/VANS.
