Keeping track of maintenance
How many of you keep track of the maintenance you do on your trucks? My father and I keep a written record and receipts from the work we do on our 3 trucks. We have file folders that we keep the receipts in. When we buy parts, most of which have lifetime warrenty we save the receipts. This comes in very handy when you own a truck for many years. Parts sometimes inner change between the 1982, 1992 and 1995. It saves money to keep records on your trucks. Does anyone else document there work? Fred

I do the same. I ran across a link to a program that will let you track up to three vehicles free, for a fee you can open it up to more but it is a pretty good program for home use.
http://www.kjon.com/ will take you to their web site and you can download the FREE FOR THREE version. That is what I use and it is great.
For example, since I bought the truck in Sept of 2001 I have:
Driven 62,631.1 miles
Spent $4,962.11 on fuel for a cost per mile of $.079
Spent $549.90 on tires for a cost per mile of $.009
Operating cost per mile (fuel, maintenance, repairs) $.131
Total cost per mile (including payments and interest, insurance etc.) $.334
It will track required scheduled maintenance and a host of things related to running a trucking company that I do not use.
