Tires

I think I am starting to begin to need tires for my '68 f250 and I wanted to know about any recommendations anybody would have. The tires I have now are narrow p.o.s. and I think they're the right ones for the truck but I hate them. I generally like wider tires. what do you think?

If it has split rims get rid of them, then go to Sam's club and get Some B.F. Goodrich all terrain T/As. Not the knarly mud tires but the regular ones. They wear like iron, have great traction in almost anything except serious slimmy mud; They ride great, don't make noise and rarely if ever go flat.

That's a big 10-4. I've owned two sets of BFG A/T's, and in my opinion, they're some of the best out there.

I had BFG's on just about every vehicle I ever owned. AT's on the trucks and TA's on the cars. I thought they were they best thing going until I actually tried other tires. Put a set of Michelin LTX M/S on my '85 Bronco. Wow, those are awesome street/mild offroad tires. Then I put a set of Big O Big Foot AT's on my '95 F150. They are a bit more aggressive than the Michelins so they are just a tad louder, but they're still at least as quiet as the BFG's and they gripped better off-road than the BFG AT's ever did for me. Yes the BFG's are good tires, but they certainly aren't the best in my opinion. You spend a lot to get the BFG name on the sidewall.

I haven't had any Michelins for a few years now but I took a set off our minivan and put on a top of the line BFG and even my wife was amazed at how much better the car rode and handled. I have been a mechanic around tire repair and we always hated to see a car with michelins come in for a seasonal change over. The beads were very stiff and after a couple of mount/dismounts you couldn't avoid damaging the bead on a tire machine. Maybe they have changed but they used to have the stiffest sidewall.
Depending on what you require of a tire makes a big difference. The michelins may go the distance for milage. They tend to weather check sooner than other tires. I talked to a guy that ran a pilot service with 3/4 4x4s running the haul road on the Alaska pipeline. Several hundred miles of bad nasty gravel. They found the BFGs to be the only tire that would hold up out of several that they tried including michelin, goodyear, firestone, yokahama and a few others. Until the put the BFGs on they had never made a trip with out flat tires. Rarely ever had a flat after the change.

I will stick with what works.
