ok, now, I"ve always wondered this, but never persued it. The clearance lights that come on SDs and the such, you know, the amber ones, why do they call them clearance lights??? I mena, the only thing I can thing of is if your gonna drive under something really short, you can look up and see how bright the lights are shining off the "Roof" of whereve you're at and that's how you can tell if you're gonna fit.... Am I totally wrong? If I am, please help my confusion.... now next thing, I've been thinking of putting some on Slider (The X) what do you guys think of that?
Actually, they aren't 'clearance' lights. Clearance lights go on a trailer. I guess the name has just become generic. They are cab marker lights. Supposed to alert oncoming traffic of the approach of a truck. They are required by the feds for trucks over a certain size. That's why all duallys have them as standard equipment. There is a certain criteria but I don't know it off the top of my head. This was discussed and answered in the SD forum a while back. If you want to know the exact details, do a search there.
I love cab markers, I have had them on my last 5 Ford trucksÉ
including my 79 & 93 Broncos. I have found it helps clear a path on the hiway at night, the more lights your truck has. If the roof liner comes out easy, I say go for it. Keep on truckin
I have been thinking of just that. I think I am going to do it. Just sometimes, I don't know that I like the look. Plus, as jskufan reminded me, fitting into the garage may be a problem. I barely fit now. I don't know that I have the headroom. I'll have to measure. I may go with the flat LED types. Here is a link that spells out the install. Thank's jskufan for emailing it to me.
