Exhaust Flutter

Hi everybody, Happy New Year an all! I have a 2001 SD SC 4x4 w/5.4/at, when I first bought the truck it had the flutter noise, not really anoying but it was there. Since Ford would fix for free I decided to have it done, its been about 6 months now. Part of the fix is reprogramming the comp. and I think I lost some power and a little mileage, or is it just my imagination? Anybody else have this done and what are your thoughts. Does anybody think Ford dealer would reverse the programming? Thanks for your input.

I wasn't aware that the 5.4 had FLUTTER, only the V10(?). I know my V10 has a mild case of it and so does my friend with the identical truck. The common "fix" by Ford is the necked down "Y" pipe installation which evidently robs power and mileage. Some fix. The REAL fix is Borla headers and new exhaust. I'm just leaving mine alone until after the warranty has expired as it is only a minor annoyance and doesn't "hurt" anything except the ear

Hmmm... first I've heard about 5.4L flutter too. Besides the re-program, what else did they do?

Exhaust Flutter

Stumpy ,
I to have had and exhaust flutter or that is what the dealer called it but they found the baffling in the converter broke souned like someone dumped a box of rocks down the exhaust under hard acceleration once the converter and pipe was replaced that was the problem they never said nothing about reprogramming computer those converter and pipe retail for around 1300.00 if warranty is close have dealer to look at promply.I do know the fuel mileage and power fell off and the check engine light come on finally.

Hello S D fans! NoMo besides the computer reprogram, which I did'nt know they were going to do , they replaced the 'Y' pipe with a different design. Does'nt look that much different but it did take the little noise away, and no it was'nt really that bothersome, it was just there. I think my converter is fine for now SVO since I try to get on it occasionly and have never heard the sound you are describing, but thanks for the input. I don't think I would do it again, but I would like to find out if they will put the computer program back where it was. Thanks all.
