Okay, I need some help. I have a 2000 F250 SD and it came with the 2" (more or less) lift blocks. I was going to change out to the 4" (more or less) lift blocks. I bought the blocks when I was riding in my friend's 99 F350 and I assumed everything was the same. When we got back home to put them on, low an behold I have a sway bar and he didn't.
So, the Ford Dealers (have been to several just in case) don't have a longer end link for the sway bar. The current one will obviously be too short now. Anyone been down this road???? Any aftermarket companies that will offer a product that will work?
Any idea where to get the sway bar links? That is what is killing me. The Ford dealer had the same part numbers for the 99 and the 2000.
Worse case, I guess I could buy a new sway bar.....anybody know where to get that? I would prefer to use the one I have but I can't find the links to make it work with the bigger blocks.
looks like i gave you some bad info on the links. the links and sway bar on your truck now will work wih 2" or the 4" blocks. the sway bar and links all have the same part # for all 4x4's reguardless of 2" or 4". you should be good to go.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jan-02 AT 11:20 AM (EST)]Ditch the sway bar.....Mine came with out one and even if it did the lift removed it anyway I have seen no ill effects of not having one yet. Now the front is a different story.... I guess the only advantage to the sway bar in the rear is if you carry a lot of high loads in the bed if the truck ie. camper.
The brake lines will be fine. I went from a 2.25" block to a 4" block with the lift, the line is a little short but still has plenty of slack to be safe.
As for shocks this might be a good time to upgrade the crappy stock shocks (if you still have them) and go with some better shocks ie. rancho, pro comp. just my .02$
Ya, I ran into the same thing with the part numbers for the sway bar. My only thought was that maybe the trucks with the 4" inch blocks were the higher gvwr vehicles and didn't have a sway bar for whatever reason. My friend has the same truck as mine but a 350 and it doesn't have sway bar on it.
Has anyone done this and been able to use the sway bar links? I hate to scrap the sway bar. I just feel like Ford put it there for a reason and those engineers are smarter than me (although sometimes I wonder).
The sway bar does actually help out at high speeds and cornering also when loaded. With my 13 inch lift I left the sway bars off and got alot of lean when traveling. What I did was simply cut the old link ends and added my own thicker bar. New links are in most 4inch and up lift kits if you do not want to make your own or don't have the tools.
BUT if you are just adding 4inch instead of 2inch blocks to the rear then it would not hurt at all to use the factory size links. Good luck.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jan-02 AT 02:23 PM (EST)]I see your point but it is strange that some have the sway bar and some don't. I wonder if it is part of a "package". You know how ford is with those "packages":-X23
In my case I can't comment on what it was like to have it so SICDUTY would have the skinny on this one...
Ok. I looked at it again. The end link I have will work but I would have to cant the sway bar a bit. I am going to go to the dealership today to see if there is either another sway bar for the 4" blocks or possible a different bracket set to mount it to the axle. Otherwise, I will have to either cant the current bar or have links made. I can't imagine that there isn't something to make it work.

mikeking i will save you the time of going to the dealer. the sway bar and links were orginally designed for the 4" blocks. in 99 when they first came out with the 4" blocks, everyone complained of the rear sitting too high to hitch a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailor. so the late 99's and newer came out wih the 2" blocks insead. the sway bar and links remained the same though, so what you have "will work". as for some having the sway bar and some not. it is part of a handeling option or trailor towing option. it will not hurt anything to take it off but, one with a sway bar would have to handle better than one without. how could it not?
Well, ok. I am going to bolt it up and see what happens. I think the sway bar will sit at a different angle but I guess I will take a look. Wish I could find a '99 with 4" blocks and a sway bar so I could compare.
