Fuel pump priming?

Fuel pump priming?

Hi all. I just finished rebuilding the Holley for my truck listed below. All told the truck has been sitting about three weeks and all the gas has drained out of the fuel pump apparently. Is it possible to prime the fuel pump to get it pumping again? I'm getting good spark as I just replaced the Ignition Module also, new plugs, plug wires, and cap. And yes I have checked for spark. I have a see through fuel filter and it's not filling up which leads me to believe that the pump needs priming. It was working prior to this down time but the engine was backfiring through the carb and there was a horrendous leak on the carb in the accelerator pump area which led to the carb rebuild. i usually put an electric pump inbetween the mechanical and the carb , run it untill the gas flows thru , that usually primes them . take the electric out and start the engine. ive heard that you can pour fuel down the vent tubes of the carb and that will keep it running untill the pump picks up , both ways work . i usually do it my way because starters are sometimes marginal and that last two or three starts will get them down the road . its hard to explain to someone that even though they came in for a fuel pump , they now need a starter , Good luck,bob
