Ive got a 97 F250 HD Crew w/460 EFI I was looking at buying a chip for my truck but Im not quite sure what all the computer controls? To my suprise I did a tune up on the truck over the weekend this thing still has a cap & rotor no mass air flow sen.
so I dont know what all the comp. would control and if it is govnd
or not Im getting ready to shoot down to FL in it and I would like it to run its best
You should start with a free-flowing exhaust and add a chip. I'm not sure how much it would help on our trucks, but you might also ask for opinions on an open-element intake system such as the K&N FIPK.
As an FYI, the computer controls most everything that would be controlled if you had a MAF setup. It's just that instead of measuring air speed & temp, the computer uses other data to determine (fairly accurately) what the fuel and ignition requirements are for the conditions.
I thought about the exhaust but I live in a county that has emission testing
I would like to throw a set of headers and 3" dual pipes but i dont want to go through a big whopty doo about getting my
e check
a cat back system would work great for you. As for the k and n, i would find something else with a replacable element. K and N lets too much dirt through, someone on here did an oil analyssi before and after switching to a k and N filter, and silcon levels ( dirt ) went up a lot, i think it close to doubled. Tymar makes a nice setup with a nice cold air intake. I know they make them for ford diesels, so i would imagine they would make on for a 460. A gibson cat-back system would be a nice setup on your truck, then add the chip, you will be a regular at the tire center.
