Ive got a 69 mustang with a 351c: 750 4brl edelbrock carb/ intake, 2v heads, headers, electronic ignition, 8mm wire... Its got a T5 married up to it with 300's in the rear although Ive got 4:11's for that 8" pumpkin as well. With the 4:11's its topend is about 75mph at 3grand...the 300's bring 82mph at 2200...made the trip from Yuma, AZ to Fargo, ND much faster! Id like something that'd maybe top out at 90/100 or so but get there real quick...got a friends 300z to beat Even better would be a 10-11 second car but that's maybe getting a little greedy? I did see my same car with a 351c on the Internet once that did get a 10 sec reading...if anyone knows where that red car is PLEASE let me know! Anyway, I'd probably have to tub it out a little and rework the front suspension and lower it a tish but that'd be at a much later date and only if I'd have to. I'd really like to keep it as streetable as possible. Im also hoping to maybe move the cleveland back about 3-4 inches and gain about 15-20 horse back and improve handling (smokey yunick)...anyone done that before? My main quesiton here is from what Ive mentioned above...what would be the best setup to chase after? Some say aussie's with cupped pistons...some say just port out the 2v heads I got or get some '71-74 2v heads and port them and a funnelweb intake. That 750 carb too big? As far as performance goes I'd really like more torque for off the line and then let it flatten out a tish so it can draw the horsepower out a little longer...or am I blowing smoke with that idea? Thanks for anyone's post! Ive never done a project like this before...any advice is welcome!
well you didn't mention what type of cam you have in the engine, that would make alot of difference, The aussie heads are a closed chamber head to raise compression, so then you ask about putting dished pistons in to lower it back down seems like a lot of wasted money either go with flat tops, or very small domes, and the heads you have. I have the aussie heads, and flat tops and gives me 11.55:1 comp but this is race only and I run it on cam 2, I also have the parker funnelweb intake, and that is an awesome looking intake ( I haven't gotten a chance to run it yet with this intake but it looks good, and good workmanship). and I wouldn't worry about setting the engine back, thats alot of work for little gain, and it mainly helps if you can't keep traction and I didn't hear that as bieng a problem. Yea that 750 carb may be a little on the big side but you could jet it down some, and help alot.
you might check out the cleveland forum at www.351cleveland.net they have alot of info, and some real good guys on there that can help alot
