My boss just gave me a 91 f250 with a 460 in it. The engine is blown, but the rest of the truck is in good condition. I am taking it to a company that only does engine replacements. I have never had anything this major done to a vehicle, and want to know what to expect. Is there anything that I should do beforehand? I want to keep the shop honest, but don't want to be obnoxious. I am a cable guy by trade, and I really hate annoying people.
I can't think of anything special to look out for. If they are doing all of the work, most everything will be reused that bolts to the engine. I would have them install a new waterpump because it is easier to do when it is out and apart anyway.
Your intake componants, exhaust manifolds, front accesories( alternator, power sterring pump, etc.) will all be reused. Only the engine block(with all internals) and cylinder heads will be replaced. I would also go ahead and install new motor mounts just to be safe.

.........of course, the best budget/low-tech method is to get a diagnosis....compression....then rip it apart yourself....then get the pro's to re-assemble it.--I was quite surprised as to what things AREN'T replaced when a shop does a rebuild.
now is the time to check out your clutch or torque converter.
if it was me i guarantee i would blow up something in the bell housing only 500 miles after all that stuff was so easy to get to!
good luck
