My ****'s stuck!

Seriously, I can't get the gear **** off my 4 spd OD. (82 300 F150). When I pop off the cap that has the shift pattern on it, there is a black disc that looks like it should turn, but it doesn't budge. The **** itself doesn't unscrew, I've tried that.
Any ideas?

If it doesn't have a lock nut under the ****, just pull... they go on a splined shaft, the installation procedure involves heating the **** up...

On my 84 ford the stick is held on by a nilon clip on the side of the stick their are two holes push in on the nilon inside and pull. it is easier with two people
