I have a 1967 f-350 dually flatbed. Inline 300/6 cyc. Granny gear ( 4 speed ). Last summer, replaced 1 bbl carb, with factory re-build to get better milage. no good! milage still 7-9mpg, downhill with tailwind! need help!!! Can different carb/manifold be installed? Where to get parts etc. Also, do those dist. 'solid state' conversion kits work? You know, the kits to eliminate the points, condenser etc. THANKS in advance!!! Great website for all us 'old' FORD people!
Upgrade to a Duraspark II ignition system to keep everything factory looking at least.
What is your rear axle ratio? With an F350 it is probably high numerically and trying to push a 300-6 at high rpm's to go highway speeds will not get the best mileage.
You can find more engine information in the 300-six forum here.
The problem with a 300, or any engine for that matter, in a F350 is if you change the rear grears for mileage you won't have the 350 tow ratings etc. Engineering is always a compromise.
