Engine reliability issues-Diesels
Looking hard at getting a 00-02 Diesel. This will be my first dive into Ford ownership and specifically, full-size SUV ownership. Did a search and couldn't find anything in the archives. What do I need to look for when purchasing? Any outstanding problems, factory TSB's, maintainence costs, etc. First post on the forum. So far, I am enjoying reading the many different topics.

Personally I would not buy used from a dealer, I hate them with a passion. Look at the air intake. Look for broken tabs on the air box, look for signs of dust/oily grit in the air inlet going to the turbo. Air filter should have pleats about 3" deep. If not it has the wrong filter in it. Have the dealer run the puter codes and look for signs of a chip, or programmer.
