I'm looking into getting my truck painted and the body smoothed out by a friend of my dad's. The man does great work, but I have to help w/ everything except the actual painting. I'll have to do all the fender removal, glass covering, sanding etc. in his shop. So far I've welded in new panels, put a first coat of bondo on and preped the rusty spots by sanding them, then appling some rust remover, then primer for the winter. Right now the truck is "mostly" gray, but I want to 2 tone it black and blood red, the inside of the box I'll spray w/ spray on bedliner, so that doesn't need to be painted. What do you think I should pay him if I do a lot of the manual work and he takes out the dents and scratchs then paints.
Well, my opinion, if your buying the paint and materials, and he takes some dents out and you mask and he sprays, well..... Probably a few hundred bucks, cause the dent removal will be a good bit of work,.. Thats my opinion....
Yep, the dent removal is where you'd be getting into the money, but I know a lot of painters would be more than happy with that. Problem is the cost of paint and primer, even sandpaper is outrageous now and thats where most of the $700 will go. I miss the days of buying a gallon of paint, reducer, and the primer for $100 Not real long ago either... Good luck
Yeah he's the kind of guy (hard to find) that actually want's you there to help, I'm fiquring since he's a family friend and I think I can be pretty good help since I've done this a little bit before that I can get the price down.
