Wandering ATC temps
2000 Explorer Limited with ATC. Set the temperature at 70. System then proceeds to cool/heat to some random temperature it likes - usually no where near the desired 70. Play with temp setting and get the system to calm down (fan running at full, etc).
Turn off the ignition, restart, and we go thru the process again except now the ATC has chosen yet another temp. While it WAS a fun game to figure out what temp had been selected by the electronics, it's gotten a bit old.
Could this be the infamous actuator door problem? Doesn't act like it 'cause the temp does move from hot to cold as needed, just that the "set" temperature doesn't reflect reality and can be off as much as 15-20 degrees in either direction.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. The "Exploder" just dropped out of warranty and I'm sure the dealer will want to charge big bucks for something he couldn't manage to diagnose for free.
