Hey Im considering buying my cousins 89 f-250 extended cab 4 wheel drive. hes got a 7.3 and an e40d (I think thats what it is, correct me if im wrong) Anyhow theres a good chance Ill buy it but Im curious on what it would take to put a five speed in there?
comeon now, Has anybody done it? are all the holes there. all I need is the Tranny, Clutch, bellhousing, clutch fork, pilot bearing, slave cylinder, and pedal assembly. is this right? If I get all this crap will it bolt up?
Well ive done it and its easy. I went from a c6 automatic to a zf five speed. I got the five speed trashed from the junkyard and rebuilt it myself. that cost me about 700 bucks total. I got a flywheel clucth pedal assembly and master and slave cylinders for the clutch form the junkyard for 50 bucks. the tranny came with the fork and the bell housing is part of the tranny. my transfer case bolted rite up to the tranny and i bought a brand new clutch from autozone for 200 bucks. comes with disc thorw out bearing and pressure plate. all guranteed for life. To be honest the hardest part was bolting the clucth pedal assembly in just the way it is its awkward. The only holes i had to drill were holes for the master cylinder on the fire wall. they were premarked from the factory tho. a hole in the floor for the shifter. and two holes in the frame to slide the cross member back about 1/2 an inch. I used the same driveshafts and have put quite a few miles on it and never had any problems what so ever. The over drive really helped my truck out to since i belive it has 4.11 gears since about 80mph in over drive is tops and with the old c6 top end was about 65maybe 70 going downhill. I dont have a tac yet thats my next project.
