Ford Explorere wire off - what is it?

Hi peeps!

I just got a 1991 Ford Explorer. It was supposed to have some troubles with its overdrive. SO I went underneath to check if the overdrive wire was off. In the process of jiggling some wires, I found dirty corroded wired attached to the driver side of the motor. It connects to a 3/4 in nut on the side of the block. There is a little BLUE plastic piece before the nut that the wire goes into. When I jiggle the wire it broke free and I lost the blue plastic piece.

Can anyone tell me what this wire is for and if it is replaceable and how.

Thanks

Sounds like a ground strap or wire. What size wire is it?

I looked at my '92. I believe that is a the sensor for the "Check oil" light on the dash, next to the "check engine" light (not the pressure indicator). When the engine oil level gets too much below a quart low, that light will come on.

You may be right, It could be the check engine light.

The wire is very thin and connects via a little blue plastic piece half the size of a dime in diameter.

I think the wire is black. Not a ground though!
