I read an article in a mustang mag. awhile back (last night or last year) and they followed there car down the line documenting the complete build. The article went on about they changed the hood because the stripes were messed up, and so on..... Is it possible to do it now-a-days? Ordering mine in a few hours, lots of help from 1956MarkII(THANKS).
Well, if your last name's Ford, and your great-grandfather was named Henry, you MIGHT be able to arrange it.....
Seriously, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get inside an auto plant anymore (thanks to 9/11). If someone did this recently, then the plant manager was an immediate relative of theirs.
I went through the Warren Mi. Expedition/Navigator plant Jan /03
There was something like 1300 positions just for the assemble plant, each assembly area has 54 seconds to do their job
Never mind their > Grocery Store (as they call) plus, the trim plants, Paint station,Tooling plant,Etc.
Since everything is handled by computer/humans,there is no way you coud follow your truck from start to finish.
That would make Just the assembly plant at 1200 minutes alone.
I thought for sure the info I gave above would show the time it takes to make a truck by special order
But,This is for the models I mentioned above.
Remember, they build 100's of thousands at how many plants ?
6-8 weeks delivered to your dealership, this sounds good to me.
Most Mail order products always say allow 6-8 weeks .
And these products are already made & they usually just need to be processed and sent out.
I would believe that 6-8 weeks to build a truck from scratch & transported to a dealership would be great.
The dealership was very nice and commented on how knowledgeable I was (this forum is the greatest). At first it was 6-8 weeks and then after I ordered they said more likely 4-6 weeks.
It's just a F150 regular cab, XLT, 8' bed, Shadow Gray, and 5.4. The only option is the 5.4.
I ordered my F-350 on Oct 2 and drove it home Oct 28. That is less then 4 weeks from placing order to building truck to shipping. That's also around the time when the plants go back on line and should be behind schedule. The bad news is Ford is replacing it and I had to order another truck and now I have to go through all the anxiety again. The good side is I get to drive a 2004 F-350 while I wait for a 2004 F-350. I shouldn't be anxious at all but I am....
