Battery Drain

I have a 1994 F-150 XL Truck. Suddenly the battery discharged and the truck will not start without a boost. When the battery is recharged, I am only able to get one start and it is discharged again. After the discharge, all current is absent including current for the dome light. After a a minute or so, enough current returns to light the dome light. When I try to start the engine, I get several clicks from under the hood. The battery and alternator have been tested and are in good working condition. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

pdougmc,

Even though you say your battery tested good, it's sounds like to me it is the problem.

Do you have another vehicle you could temporalley swap batterys with? Just to check.

I have seen batteries and alternators both tested "good" by the local parts house really not be "good".

Good luck,

Oh yea, Welcome to the site!

Yes, the problem is the battery or battery cables.

Did it happen to freeze this winter ?

That will kill it.

One cell (or more ) could be bad as well.

I have seen brand new batteries that had a short in them

Thanks for input guys. I found my problem today. The cables were not as tight as they should be on the battery. After tightening the cables, the truck starts very well.
