My wife called me at work today. She started my '00 EB Expy and was about to take off in it. The Oil light came on and the pressure dropped to zero. Then the guage went up halfway and dropped to zero again. Thankfully, (due to a previous bad experience she had that involves two cracked heads and a melted piston) she shut it down. My Dad went over and checked the oil, which was changed about 2 weeks ago, before a 700 mile round trip to Miami, and found it a quart low. My driveway has a pretty good slant to it, and the weather was in the low 50's, but I cannot see this being an issue considering the climate that these trucks are subjected to. I added a quart and tried to replicated the problem with no luck.
Question:
1) With no visible leaks, could something in the PCV system be sucking up the oil?
2) Would the oil light come on, and would one notice a drop in oil pressure if only a quart low?

1. I've read where the pcv can suck up oil, but I'd be really surprised if there weren't some pretty sophisticated baffles inside to keep this from happening.
2. No way. Probably a faulty sending unit or gauge.
Cheaply made filters sometimes collapse and cause such problems. Was the filter used a good one, like the Motorcraft?
Usually it's the sending unit that goes bad in such cases when there is oil in the crankcase. Sometimes the gauge is bad.
I always check the oil level immediately after the service if I've done it myself or had it done someplace else. People make mistakes, and also sometimes cheat you out of a quart on purpose.
Check sensor voltage or replace, and replace oil filter. See what happens.
I change the oil myself, and I use Wix Gold filters from NAPA. I will check the voltage and see what I get. Thanks for the replies. I will share my results..
