I've got a 302 out of a 79 F-150, carb'd of course, (and bored out o.3o" over if that matters) that I'm rebuilding for the Explorer, and I have been told that I can take the injection system off of an early '80's Crown Vic and just swap it onto my engine and it will work, and its a lot cheaper than the holley kit. I know its TBI, and a lot of people I"ve talked to says it sucks, but I need to keep it running at extreme angles. SO, is this info that I got correct? and if not, is there a somewhat inexpensive way I could something like this to make it work?? Thanks in advance for any info.
p.s. I hope that makes sense

I can't answer your question, other to say if it came on a 302 there is no reason it won't work on anther one, you may have to modify the emission hookup.
I found this the other day used 670 holley projection unit, complete with everything to make it go, for $300, I would get it but I am happy with my set up right now, check it out and see if that interest you, good luck either way.
well, then, if that's possible, I wonder how hard it would be to swap a DI system onto it. I'm new to the V8 world, and I'm rebuilding this as my first engine build up, so I'll probably be having a lot more questions. Thanks jwtaylor.
I don't know the details but the concept is simple, the intakes (carb and efi) interchange, which holds the injectors, some heads don't have emission hookup (thermactor) in the back of the heads, your 79 should, which you will need with speed density. Then you have an o2 sensor, easily welded into the exhaust system, some have knock sensors some don't again this is something you could make work, slap the correct efi fuel pump/pressure on the system and your good. It would require an appropriate camshaft, for the efi system, some carbed motorts have the wrong lobe seperation, you will need the tfi distributor, again interchangeable, so its a lot of small pieces but nothing you can't do with some research. ONce again good luck with your project
I've only seen one article on the web about anyone modding an engine with one of these setups. Can't recall where now, but Ford called their TBI system CFI(for Central Fuel Injection). Apparently, his results indicated that he bumped up compression, and it ran better, then went to headers, better yet. High torque RV/towing cam, pretty strong. Ported heads, ran like a dog's a$$.
Conclusion was that low CFM rating of the unit worked great with low-rpm high torque setup with no computer mods, but anything that's built to make good mid-to-upper range power won't work without at least a chip, and likely larger injectors/throttle body. I've also got a friend with a Crown Vic with a rebuildable 302 with this system and have thought about it myself. If you do it, I'd like to hear your results/impressions.
