I finally decided b/w Ford and Chevy. This past weekend, my brother-in-law came to visit and for a lack of better things to do, we went and looked at trucks. We went to the ford lot and to the Chevy lot, found a diesel and drove them. After getting out of the ford and into the Chevy, I didn't have a question in my mind, I was buying a Ford. I had driven them both before, but it had been weeks apart from each other. The best way is to drive them both back to back. The salesman at the Chevy lot said he was a production manager at the International plant for his full time job and did sales just for the hell of it. He basically said, it boiled down to which "Truck" you prefer because he thought the engines and transmissions were comparable. He did say that either way I went it benefitted him. I loved how much Freakin' Room was in the truck, that was really the biggest factor.
On Sunday, I got on Ford's website and got out the phone book. I put in everything I wanted and started entering zip codes and found the exact truck I wanted 90 miles from my house, called the dealership on Monday to be sure it was still there and went up to see it. It took nearly all day long to hash it out, but I am sure I got a great deal. My brother's Neighbor is a Sales Manager at a Ford Dealer near his house, so I called him, told him what I wanted and told him that if he could beat this deal, I would walk away and let him order it. He told me the dealership I was dealing with was already about $500 better than he woudl want to put in my trade, so that sealed the deal. I traded in a '99 monte carlo with 115,000 miles on it and I got the X-Plan, price, $2000 Cash back and $750 military bonus. My new truck has the Lariat Package, FX4 Package, Skid Plates, Locking Diff., 6 Disc CD player, Security package, CAB LIGHTS, Trailering Mirrors, Basically everything except a sun-roof and power sliding rear window. I got Dark Shadow Grey Exterior and the light grey leather interior. 2004 Crew Cab, Short Bed, 6.0 Diesel!!!!!
Congrats on landing what sounds like a super truck! Now instead of the new country song that says, "....down to Georgia, GO DOGS GO", we can switch it to "... down in Georgia, GO CADS GO" !!!

That's how I remember doing it; if the 10-step list above isn't perfectly accurate, I'm sure it's relatively close and you can figure out where/if I went astray on the directions... "Joo kan duit..."

Sounds just like the truck I recently bought! Same colors too, but mine's the XLT pkg...I didn't want leather. I don't have the FX4 package, but I do have the skid plates. I also got the sunroof.

Did you find the Chevy to have the same get up and go as the Ford? In late December last year my father and I drove a GMC and a Ford back to back and as far as powertrain goes, the Ford won hands down. The 6.0 really had a lot more oomph than the Duramax.
I ended up ordering a V10, but that was because I couldn't justify the diesel in a truck that won't be driven that much and that will hardly ever tow anything.
I did find the Chevy was a somewhat slower, most noticely at highway speeds. When I mashed the gas at 65, the ford was at 90 in the blink of an eye. The Chevy on the otherhand, did reach 90, but it seemed like I was waiting on it.
