Excursion V-10 Towing Capability

My plans are to purchase a 30 ft. boat with an approx. loaded weight of 11,000 lbs. I have no clue what a tri-axle trailer weights. Owned both pick-up and SUV previously, prefer to purchase a 2000 Excursion 4x4 with V-10 to pull boat and trailer. Live in Florida so towing will always be on flat (no mountains/hills) roads. Chances are towing will be for a maximum of 300-400 miles on ocassions. Will the Excursion be adequate? If so, is the factory trailer hitch adequate? If not what type of hitch is recommended? Need help on these questions and any suggestions from those using V-10 4x4 Excursion in similar towing situations! All help greatly appreciated.

10500 pounds is the rating, and i believe the v10 tows more than the diesel because it weighs less.

Do not get a V10 pulling that kind of weight. Believe me, I've done it. I got 5 mpg and now my tranny is acting kind of wierd.

That was the least of my concerns though.

I have a 30' triple axel Weekend Warrior and the wheelbase on the Ex was WAY too short to be towing that length of trailer. My v10 Ex was severely underpower for the weight and felt like a wet noodle going down to road because of the length of the trailer. I had extremely spoungie suspension and massive sway, even with sway controll installed. I ended up buying 03 crew cab long box F-350 6.0L diesel to pull the trailer.

I would never pull a trailer that big with an Ex again. It was a danger to my family in the car and it was a danger to everyone else on the road.

By the specs maybe the v10 can tow more, but in the real world you are just kidding yourself if you believe the v10 is better at towing than the diesel. I've driven both, I know. If the gas engines are so good at towing, why don't the 18 wheelers use them?

I was wrong anyway, looked in my owners manual and the rating is 10000 for v10s with 4.30s and all diesels, which all come 3.73s.

I dunno, I have a V-10 and love it, but with that kind of weight, I surely would want and SD PSD.

ALL diesels come with 3.73's? Oh, you must mean Ex's.
