It will be fun. I know it.. I love anywhere that still has guns roaming around.. I kind of like that Slick can carry there too - she ain;t 21 yet, so she can't carry some places.
Yeah man, open carry is so bad ****. When I lived in WA, it was a different story. While technically there is no law forbidding open carry, the moment someone makes a negative comment, it's a misdemeanor. So I could open carry walking down the street in downtown Seattle and be completely legal so long as nobody said a thing about it. But the moment someone opens their mouth, even a police officer, it's criminal.
But here in Billings, the only reason I usually conceal is to maintain my tactical advantage. If my jacket sways in the wind or my shirt is cought up over the hammer, I don't sweat it. In the summer time I go around shirtless with my 1911 hanging off my shoulder. I've only been hassled once for open carrying here, and that was in Laurel.
If you were in Laurel on the 4th of July this past summer and wondered what was with all the police attention right about sundown just south across the street from the high school, it was me. I was open carrying and even talking to police officers during the day nobody cared, but as the crowd grew, a bunch of tourists called 911 about "some wackos with guns standing in their front yard". So every police officer in the area came running with lights flashing and sirens blaring. I think they were a little disappointed to just find a couple guys legally carrying their guns, but they made a big show of talking to us in front of the crowd. I was actually kind of peeved, because they made us put our hands on the wall and they patted us down. I tried to talk some sense into them, and they finally admitted I hadn't broken a single law, but the whole thing was absolutely unneccessary, and presented a guilty-until-proven innocent mentality I wasn't and am still not comfortable with.
And one other thing, we do have an uncool gun law though. In MT, you can not carry into any establishment that serves alcohol in anyform. That means that whether concealed or open, no carry even in as mundane a place as Red Robin or Fuddrucker's. But I say concealed is concealed, right? If nobody knows, no harm, no foul.
damn matt i wish i could have been there, my truck got real sick 2 weeks ago. i ended up pulling the heads and found out they were heads off a ford fairlane, they were totalty burnt. i ended up buying a set for 183 bucks that just had a valve job done on them. but while installing them my chevy minded father who was helping me put his gasket on backwards blocking the back water hole and not the front, of course i put mine on the right way. well 5 minutes into running the truck i knew i had a problem. she over heated really bad. yesterday i got the heads and intake back off and found little metal shavings everywhere. looking into my cylinders gave me the gory picture of scratchs on everyone of them. some bad and some just not bad but all had the damage. right now i am putting it back togather again. this time with the gaskets facing the right way. i am postive i am going to have to bore it out this summer, but i need it right now. i would send pictures but soime people on here might find it too offensive. lol
rather be there then here right now lol
The establishments that forbid weapons are places I choose not to frequent.. If I have to go into one, I have a very nice, very small, very accurate 9mm, that comes with me.. tucked in tight, and deeply concealed. I will not go unarmed - I have been shot too many time for that to ever happen.
Unfortunately forbidden establishments in Montana include banks, schools, post office and all gov't offices, etc. in addition to places that serve alcohol.
Incidently there are few places in Montana that serve food that do NOT serve alcohol.
Tell me about it, I can't legally have a burger with the guys. But generally, for that sort of stuff, I just "really" conceal. You know, smallest gun, baggiest clothes. The only places I don't ever carry are the bars and federal buildings. And I have no reason to go to a school.
Oddly enough, state law also says you can't carry on a train.
