engine swaps
I have read the posting regarding the swap of a later 302 into an earlier passenger car. What I am considering is the physical aspects of the changeover, such as using a later gas tank with internal pump, and wondering if anyone has done a late into early engine swap using the factory fuel injection. My understanding is that later (2001 was the last year for the 302, in Explorers and Mountaineers) small blocks, 302 and 351W, will bolt in. In the various discussions on-line, the consensus seems to be that the 351W is better, and would appreciate opinions on this engine as opposed to the 302. I considered a Triton, because low mileage 302s are difficult to find, but have been told that the physical adaptation is somewhat more difficult. I would appreciate reading anything anyone has to say on this subject.

The fuel pump is not a big problem. Use an external high pressure pump and you can plumb in a fuel return line at least a couple of ways. Thru the tank filler vent or thru a tube fitted into the pickup/sender assy.
