When I open my door, the interior light doesn't work. Also my door chime and light ajar and cargo light won't work either. This is a 1999 f150 supercab.I tried the wd-40 trick on the door latch.Didn't help.I can turn the interior light on with the switch on the dash.Cargo light also works this way.Could the problem be a relay switch.Help please
It sounds like you could have a problem with your GEM (Generic Electronic Module). The GEM controls the courtesy lights, warning lamps, wipers 4x4 operation etc. It bolts to the back of the fuse box under the dash.
First I would check all the fuses and the grounds that are behind both the front kick panels.
If that doesnt turn up anything you should probably take the truck to your dealer and have the GEM scanned for problems.
The kick panels are the trim pieces on the side, in between the end of the dash and the floor, by where your feet go when you're sitting in the truck.
The ABS doesnt work through the GEM however there might be related fuses and grounds.
Thanks racerguy.I'm going to have to have the codes read.I checked the fuses and everything checked out ok.I will attempt the grounds and see what I can find. This site is awesome.
