I have a 2000 Powerstroke and am planning on changing the exhaust to 4". No shop in the immediate area can work with 4" pipe, so I guess I will do it myself. I can get a good deal on a Magnaflow XL exhaust, stainless steel. Has anyone installed this kit? If so, do you like it, and how hard was it to install? This kit comes with a 3 1/2" downpipe. Magnaflow's ad says 3 1/2" is better than 4" on the downpipe. And I was wondering if this is true, or should I try to get a 4" downpipe? Or does it make much difference?
I bought the same exhaust, installation was easy, all necessary hangers were included and the price was great. I purchased my dp from Banks(3.5") I would use the 3.5"dp on your truck also. You might find that the 4" will be snug against the firewall.
There are no clearance issues with the 4"downpipe on the 99+ powerstrokes, fits right in there without a problem, I say go 4". Can't imagine how a 3.5 is better , Good luck!!
ive been told that the 3 1/2" down pipe turned out to have more hp than the 4" This is comming from the guy at HPD (high performance diesel) i just have 3 1/2 down pipe then 5" past the cab then curved to the ground and it sounds and runs great!!!

The down pipe size has to do with the horsepower you want to make.
