New paint waiting period?

I just bought a 2004 Expedition and am wondering if there are any special tips or a waiting period for the paint to "cure"? I always heard you should wait 6 months. Any truth to it or is it OK to wash and polish?

Wash with a mild soap anytime. You should be safe for wax after 30 days.
