When towing 3-5k pounds up a long grade what kind of rpm does the new 5.4 pull? Where is the torque sweet spot? We will be pulling our camping trailer with a new F150. We like to find a comfortable speed (for the truck, never wide open) and wondered how high and rpm. Temps stay safe even when outside temps hot and grades steep?
Thanks, Steve
3,000 seems to be the sweet spot. I pull a 7500 boat/trailer in flat michigan with some grades but usually flat highway at 75mph
I had an 01 with 3.55 gears where the torque peak was lower. and opted for the 3.73 gears for this 04 truck because of the higer rpm torque curve. both trucks pulled the boat fine in michigan.
a co worker of mine was a former program manager for the 04 at ford drive train and said the requirement for the 9900 lbs tow rating included the test of a 10% grade??? (forgot the number for sure) at wot, without gaining temperature in 105deg arizona or downshifting into 1st. so a pretty robust validation for the tow rating. hope that helps.
