I was taking a look at my Dad's truck last night, 94 S10 4cyl 5 speed base model truck, he was complaining about new engine noise and he discovered the fan is rubbing the bottom of the fan shroud. The fan and shroud appear to be in the proper places so I started looking at the motor mounts. I got the crowbar and I could lift the passenger side of the engine 1/2" and the driver side about 1", so I think it's time for new motor mounts. Ever heard of this happening before, to any brand of vehicle?
Ford MN12 bodystyle vehicles eat motor mounts also, they are liquid filled, when they go bad they make the vehicle vibrate some, they dont make the fan rub tho, I think oil can mess up the rubber over time
I would replace, Im sure there cheaper then the ford MN12 pieces which costs $89-129 a side
My dad got a dealer price of $90 Cdn per side, so before plunking down the $$, I think we might pull the one mount out to make sure that's what's causing the problem. Not sure about getting used mounts from a wrecker if they can go bad like this.
you could probably make the fan clear and drive it like that for a long time, that 4 banger shakes so bad it has to destroy a rubber mount pretty quick
I dont particlarly care for the 2.2 the old 2.5 was a better engine, the new 4 banger makes V6 power and looks hot
I took the engine driven fan off of my Safari Van and put an electris fan on it. Got one off of a junked Hundai and it has worked good for the last 4 years.
I also got an 82 f 150 supercab.
We pulled the bottom half of the fan shroud out as a temporary solution. Looks like a fairly lengthy job to change the motor mounts, longer than my F150 at any rate.
As for the 2.2, no complaints there except for power. It has been pretty low maintenance, gets good gas mileage, and is racking up miles at a pretty good rate as a commuter vehicle.
