I know I've seen the subject on this site before, but I can't find it again, so maybe someone out there can help.
My question is this:
The fuel tank on my '02 SD PSD is supposed to be a 30 gallon, but I've never been able to get over 25 gallons in at the diesel pump.
I've heard about problems having to do with the tank vent tube not allowing the tank to be filled to capacity.
Has anyone out there heard of this?? Are there any fixes?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. -BR
You are referring to the "harpoon" mod, named after "maroon harpoon" from another truck site. Did my truck over a year ago. Works great.... fill ups now hold 30.27 gallons to be exact. Drain and drop your tank. Remove the plastic nut on top holding the pump/sender unit in. Pull pump/sender out. Reach in the tank towards the back and you will feel a small plastic tube sticking down about 3 or 4 inches. Take a ratchet type PVC pipe cutter and cut the tube off to about 3/4's of a inch. You can buy the ratcheting type PVC pipe cutter from Home Depot for less than $10.00. Don't cut the pipe with a saw, you will never get all the filing out of the tank. Depending on tools and your mechanical abilities this will take 2 to 3 hours.
Mark,
Thanks for your reply. I will be performing the surgery as soon as the weather here in Utah cooperates. Since my garage is too short for my truck....or should I say, my truck is too tall for the garage, I'll have to do the deed in my driveway. Thanks again.
