What type distributer for a 4V?

Hi all, First time here - so be gentle
Bit of a greenhorn when it comes to 351 Cleveleands, then again, most things that purrrr.
I've scored an old 4v 351 C, harnessed nicely in the Australian 1971 XY GT HO.
Most of her life was spent on the drag strip but since the C4 trans locked and destroyed the diff and 2 rods she has changed from a 9 & 1/2 rpm pulling 10.75sec down the 1/4 mile to a 6 & 1/2 rpm, hydraulic 290 crane cam with the old majorly modified heads. Heads apparently flow from original 300 HP to 750HP on the dyno.!??
I'm looking at purchasing a new distributor for the old 4V. Currently running a electronic dist with a spitfire crane cam coil.
In your opinion - what else would suit/satisfy this girl to keep rumbling consistently for mainly street use.

Cheers.

not sure exactly what you are wanting to know but if you have a distributor that is electronic now why not stay with it and spend the money on other things, but for dizzies I like MSD #8580, you also don't say what type of ignition box you have, but if you are running the stock box that might be a better place to spend the $200+ on for a start, and if you are just planning on running this on the street those heads are probably going to rob you of low end torque big time maybe sell them as highly modified heads, and by a set that isn't so modified.

Welcome to FTE...we'll try to go easy on you.

I'd go with a stock type rebuilt or aftermarket distributor with vaccuum advance. Maybe try to find one like Mallory or Accel that you can get different sets of springs for so you can tune the advance.

Thanx - gentle so far.
You guys have answered my vague question sufficently.
Most people have mensioned to stay with a stock elec dist. EG the ACCEL vac adv, that i currently have. Have looked at the MSD but at $800 Au finding it hard to justify. (agreed - other areas need bucks $$$ spent on them)

Havent thought of the different spring sets for the 'rollers' which may aid tuning. Can cope with underpowering of the heads, down low for the time being, but definately take the advice onboard.

Main prob is - the accel in there now has been taken out of my 351C 2v which had been curved for a 280 Hyd Crane Cam (290 Hydro Crane Cam in the 4V). Upon setting the timing, i cant get any more than a 24 deg advance beyond 3.5 RPM. Have been told that I ideally want to advance to 32-35 deg @ 5-5.5 RPM.

Where am i going wrong??

Whirly - greenhorn
Thanx again
