well i had my truck on the scales with a 1/4 tank of gas and it was at 5080lbs with me in it(200lbs) and my tool bo85lbs) and mine is not a 7700 and it is a short bed so the 5500 sounds pretty close to me for a 7700
I'm wondering what gives with the advertised curb weight on our trucks. Mine is supposed to weigh 4600 lbs. At the scale it weighed 5200 with 2/3 tank (100 lbs) and me (200 lbs). Either the scale was inaccurate or my truck weighs 300 lbs more than its listed curb weight.
Did you use the FTE spec sheet from the Ford Press Kit for 2002, hooD? CUrb weight says 4888 lbs. Those curb weights are for a "dry" vehicle with no options, that may be where the missing weight is, CPerry, options and other fluids.
My 2000 7700 in the sig weighs approx 5575 lb. with nobody in it, but 25 gals of gas (ok 5567.2 lbs). Now we're down to approximates, since I don't have a clue about the actual weight of the canopy. Remove the approx 250 lb canopy/shell and you down to around 5325 lbs. Approximate weight of gas is 210 lbs when full at 25 gals, so my 7700 weights 5115 lbs with an extremely empty tank. Discount all the other fluids and you may have a truck that weighs 5000 lbs.
Since I don't have a good reference for my model year, I'm using the 2002 specs from the site. The model I have has a curb weight around 5030 lbs. Sounds about right to me.
That would be my guess, CPerry. It may not make it equal 100%, but it would be a start.
Was the spec from a chart that listed body style, wheelbase, engine, and tranny combination? Options and fluids are not included. I've seen the generic wheel base & body style chart, many on-line vehicle sites use it. If that was the case, then you're looking at a V-6, manual, base model XL. That'll definitely cause you to lose some weight.
A generic chart is what my state uses to base my vehicle registration costs. That's why I have a curb weight on my registration of 4301 lbs. I've asked about it, the registration clerk shrugs. You see my state bases truck registration on GVWR. The generic lower curb weight translates to a lower GVWR of 6000lbs. If you were close in weight on towing/ hauling/ or for registration purposes I'd worry... In your case Perry, I'd just chalk it up to glitches, options, and fluid.
MGuimares:
1. There is no plow on my 7700.
2. My rear disc brakes squeal only when first used, after either extreme humidty or pouring rain. They are silent otherwise and have given me no problems.
