I'm fairly convinced I have a blend door issue. Heats and cools fine in the back but the temp **** does nothing for the front. It’s a ’98 EB exp. No climate control. I have searched and read MANY post here about this. What I have read is that the Explorers commonly have the door break, but the Exp seam to only mention the actuator being bad. I can see the actuator on the bottom of the heat box. When I move the temp **** I can see the little piece of the actuator spin. This would lead me to believe that the motor (actuator) is good. Agree?
Here are my questions:
1. On the 98 EB (no climate control) is the actuator electric or vacuum? (Have seen multiple posts here that indicate only the climate control are electric)
2. Is seeing the little round thing on the actuator spin when I turn the **** an indication that it is good?
3. Has anyone had the door break on an Expedition (not Explorer)?
4. Can I get to the door if I remove the actuator?
5. If it is broke, is it the same type of break as the common Explorer break that could be fixed with a “pin”.
My 98 expy had exactley same thing happen 3 months ago and it was the blend door that broke and I followed the pics and instructions on one of the expy posts here that shows how to fix that on the expy not the explorer and it is a common problem on expys to have blend door break and it is an expensive dealer fix due to high labor hours to fix.
I wouldn't mind taking a look at that link too. I think mine is acting up since I tried to turn off the heat the other day in the rear and it still stayed luke warm/cool when I put it all the way to cool (fan only not ac) and the front vents blew much cooler air. Thinking that maybe my blend door has gone south.
The pics link on that post is to a fix done on a expedition not an explorer thats why I posted link so you could go see the pics and repair info on how to fix the expedition
