1979 ignition systems

My '79 F-150 won't start. It has a 351M with a 4 speed manual tranny. I just replaced the electronic ignition box, starter relay. The only time it will show any spark is when you let off of the key switch. If you hit the ignition box with some pliars it will show intermitten spark, with the key and if you bypass it on the starter relay. I bench checked the distributor it didn't check out. No resistance on the magnetic pickup. Could the old ignition box have fried my distributor? I have also heard of the key switch making it have intermitten spark. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

take the pickup to a parts store for testing. The old module would not have burned it out tho. You may have some loose connections. The DS2 box will always throw a spark when powered off.

Torque1 is correct, the pickup coil should have some resistance when a reading is taken across the coil. You either have an open in the coil or wiring. The wiring flexes when the vacuum advance moves the mounting plate, and this causes it to break.

Finally got some time to work on it and replaced the pickup coil and key switch and it ran great. First start after I rebuilt the engine. Thanks for all the help.
