The inside door marker lights on my buddies 2001 Super Duty were not coming on when the door was opened. Upon further inspection (removing the lenses) we found there were no bulbs or sockets for that matter. He brought it to the dealer who told him it was an option which I think is BULL (it's same dealer that gave me a hard time about my piston slap problem) My truck has the same lights and it is an XLT also and my lights work, just want you guys to check and see if the door marker lights on your trucks come on when the door is opened so he has some ammo when he goes back to the dealer.
Thanx
Chuck
The door marker lights on my 2002 F350 SD XLT work. I still have all the info on all the options available when I ordered my truck (December) and there is no mention of inside door marker lights as an option. You could go to the Ford website (ford.com) and click on "Build it" (or something like that) and check the options that way. I would walk out onto the dealers lot..find similiar trucks and start opening doors.
I had an early 99 (april 98 build) that was an XLT. It had the wiring and sockets, but no bulbs and no clear lense. I just put some bulbs in and kept the red lenses. The Lariat had functioning door lights in that year.
My current truck has operational lights, but it's a Lariat. Problem is that Ford changes stuff year to year and even in middle of the model year.

I just put a set bulbs in my 99 today, with the red lens. Sure is a shame that F$RD didn't see fit to put in two very inexpensive bulbs. I have an XLT others may not have the sockets and wiring.
My '01 XLT doesn't have the lights and as near as I can tell the wiring isn't there. I took the door panel off to replace a mirror and couldn't find any wiring.
I have a 99XLT crew cab and the front door marker lights on mine were not operational. I took the red lense off and found the socket was there with no light bulb so I put in a bulb and presto-they work when the door is opened. They stay on the same delay until the dome light goes off.
