Hello all. I am new to this forum and overwhelmed with all of the good info you guys (and gals) provide here. Simply amazing.
Anyhow, on to my question. I have a 1995 F-250 with the E4OD. 41,000 miles, although I am not sure i believe that is the true mileage, as I purchased it last year. When I take off, I get TC shudder in 1st, and 2nd is slipping fairly bad. However if i manually select first, I get no shudder. Do you think this tranny is in need of a rebuild or maybe there is an easier fix? I know next to nothing about transmissions.
I have taken it to 3 different tranny shops and 2 have suggested a complete rebuild. The other said a transmission service should fix the problem. I tend to not believe options #3. All 3 say no codes have been thrown.
If it is any help in diagnosing, my problems started about 100 miles after getting a tranny service. I have tried adding a friction modifier, and that helped very little. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt
[Edit]: After posting this I realized I forgot to mention something. The OD switch on the shifter does not work. No light, and OD doesn't turn off when pushed. I know it's not just the light being blown, because I still get the 5th gear either way. Dont know if this could be related, but thought i'd add it anyhow.

Well it is only a 4 speed tranny, kinda hard to get the 5th speed, but anyhow. Sounds like the t/c is going out, it is pretty common in the pre 96 E4OD's. I would replace the t/c and give it a shot. If you think about it, in a tranny rebuild they should replace the t/c anyhow, so you are not out anything. And if it is not throwing any codes i doubt the selonoid pack is having any problems, those usually will stir up something in their lifetime.
