Just a question or two for anyone. I have a 1965 F100 short bed pick up and i'm trying move my gas tank from the cab to under the frame. Has anyone ever completed or attempted this job. My question is, what vehicle (truck), newer model can I get a gas tank from that will fit under my 65 cab with little to no major modifications. Please help????????????
asked and completed many-a-time. Do a search, there have been several different methods used to move the tank. The most popular is a mustang tank between the back frame rails.
This months Classic Trucks magazine has an excellent article by Skip Porterfield on this subject. Nice read! They have an article on a really nice 66 some guy built for under $7K.
I found a couple of tanks on ebay. I'm trying to get one out of CT. It's for a 65 thru 68 Mustang. The measurements are a bit long(couple of inches) but i know it will work. If you could explain to me exactly what you had to do i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
I am currently in the process of fitting a 16 gallon plastic fuel cell between the frame rails of my 65 short bed. It's working out pretty well. The tank sits behind the differential and between the frame rails. The rear frame cross members need to be moved to accomodate the tank, but I just made 2 new ones from 2x4 rectangular tubing and am welding them in. The fill will be thru the floor of the bed. The fuel cell is about $200 and well worth the money. Not a lot more than the Mustang tank and, in my opinion, a lot less fabrication than the Mustang tank requires.
