i was told that the 460 will bolt up to the 351m's tranny. (bell housing) is this true? if so what other changes would i have to make?
1980 F250 4x4
351m 3 speed auto

Don't get so happy just yet. If it's an automatic, the 351M/400 torque converter will likely not work with the 429/460. The pilot **** is too big.
I read somewhere they may have changed that on later models. I was dealing with early model stuff ('69 429 engine, '72 400 tranny) and it definitely didn't fit. I had to change the torque converter.

I recently had that problem with a 429 engine. Ended up taking the converter with the short snout .......what threw me off is, The short snout converters were listed as being for F.E. engines, with no mention of them fitting the 429 crankshaft.
