I have the 04 with a 3.73 limited slip rear in my s-crew 4x4.. sometimes when i am turning right it feels like a vibration in the back right side, it stops when i get straight.. Has anyone else had this problem? There are no other vibrations in the truck
grady208...lots of posts on this, but the vibe when turning could most likely be in the diff. There seems to be a problem with the clutch packs in the LSD, and having the dealer replace them solves the problem.
How old is your '04? Mileage? I'd like to start a database for tracking these chronic problems, to see if they're isolated to a specific batch of diffs or a bad production run at Ford.
Welcome to the forum, and keep us posted on the final fix!
Try this. I had one that did this and the dealer told me that after a long run down a relatively straight road the clutch pack can get hot and stick together. Find a parking lot and turn your steering wheel full lock and go in circles (about 3 should do it). If you're having the problem when turning right, make right circles and vise versa. It always worked for mine. Sometimes the problem would re-occur but the circle turning would instantly fix it.
I have had mine since sept. but it hasn't done it the whole time.
It started doing it after i had a rear axle seal replaced. I'm not sure if that had something to do with it.
I feel it through the entire drivetrain not just the rear wheel though.
I just pulled this out of the owner's manual on page 154 of the downloadable adobe acrobat file. I'm not sure if it's the same page number in the owner's manual that I got with the truck--it's not handy right now. I guess it depends on just how bad the vibration is for us to determine the vibration isn't "normal":
TRACTION-LOK AXLE (IF EQUIPPED)
This axle provides added traction on slippery surfaces, particularly when one wheel is on a poor traction surface. Under normal conditions, the Traction-Lok axle functions like a standard rear axle. The axle may exhibit a slight noise or vibration in tight turns with low vehicle speed. This is normal behavior and indicates the axle is working.
Feels like a "shudder" in the rear end. Mine happened after the first 100 miles back in Dec. I now have 8,000 miles. . .problem still exists, but I have no desire to fix it at this time.
