On cold mornings I am having some fuel leaking from somewhere in front of the pump. It leaks for about 5 min. and then it stops. It only leaks when engine is cold (fast idle) then stops. I know it's leaking from the front somewhere but don't know where.
What could it be?
most generally it could be from a throttle shaft seal, top cover, or side cover, when in "cold mode" the cold advance solenoid closes the return(hose out the top) to gain timing advance, this in turn increases the amount of internal pressure inside the pump. Carb cleaner, flashlight, and a mirror to hopefully find the source, hope I have been of some help.
About a year ago mine started doing the same thing. About a month later it stopped leaking when cold. But started leaking when hot. (5 to 8mpg) it wasn't that hard to figure out. In the end I had to replace the injector pump. I hope your problem has a cheaper solution.
If you do end up replacing the injector pump do it your self or hire a good mechanic. I was new to the area and hired a highly recomended shop that claimed they worked on diesels all the time. 3 pumps and 9 return trips later I bought a book and timed it myself. (that was an expensive lesson)
Again, I hope there is a cheaper solution to your problems
Try feeling this area for the leak at the pump if nothing else is visible:... where the pump mounts to the engine is a flange with 3 nuts holding it on (they are 9/16 wrench) right behind this area is neck of the pump and at the very bottom of this neck is a weep hole. It is a real bear to get your finger under this area, but I had 3 rebuilt pumps leak here. They would leak, they wouldnt leak. Made me a drinker (besides my wife). You can wipe the area by passing a dry rag thru and run it back and forth. This is my 2 cents worth and hope it helps.
Hey,builder12
Will a fresh rebuild on a injector pump(& injectors) make the E4OD
operate with greater efficency??

Wayne, I dont know what a rebuild has to do with the trans operating but I would imagine a "full tune up" would make the engine more efficient. The switch on the pump for the trans would have to be readjusted too. I dont know what the hell they call it FLIP ... FILP I dunno but it makes the trans down shift and all that stuff. I dont do transmissions (especially slush boxes) to be honest with you.
