Fellas,
I currently have 8" rims and 33-12.5-16 Tires , No lift.
I was wondering if anyone one you folks have 10" rims on your superduty and if anyone of you have escaped from using mud flaps, guards. I really don't wanna put them on. I mostly drive highway and beach. Will sand/rocks get thrown on to the body of the truck? Will this be really bad? What if I go real slow.
I wasn't really sure how it would look either with 2" sticking out from the fender area. I suppose it would look nice but if anyone has done this, I would appreciate some input on advantages and disadvantages.
I can't say that this will really help you or not, but it's worth a shot. I have a F150 at the moment, F350 on order. I run 40"x17.5 Ground hawg tires on my truck now. The wheels are 12 wide. Even with the 4 inches of tires outside the fender well, I don't get rocks or scratches. The worst is when I wash it and then drive through a puddle. But I did have 33s on it before with 10" wide rims and they look ten times better with that rim, compared to a 8". Now as far as the extra 2 inches sticking out, when you order a 10" vs a 8", the backspacing is altered to keep the tire somewhat in the fender well. Learn a little about backspacing before just ordering. If you just want the 2 more inches, I don't recommend them, but they sell wheel spacers.
Thanks for that quick reply. Appreciate it. You wouldn't happend to have ol pics of that 10" with the 33s would you upclose? Would really like to see them. However one thing that got me all excited was that inspite your tires stuck out 4", you didn't get much problems with rocks etc. KEWL! That's really what I wanted to hear.
I think it's time for to go change em! Problem is I don't know what to do with 8" American Racing Rims(only 3 weeks old). Hmmmmmmmm
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Feb-02 AT 03:12 PM (EST)]Your truck is white as far as I can tell, so if you do feel that the new width is causing issues on your paint, I would go purchase a sheet of 12"x12" clear 3M sticker. I know that it can be purchased at a Dirtbike store, it's called a clear number plate background. Take the sheet and cut it to fit in the lower section that you could have rocks hitting and apply it, with the white paint, you can't see it. But I don't believe you'll have any problems. My truck is black and goes out a lot, not a scratch on it. Except on top of the roof where my tire flung a hunk of rock and mud 40 feet in the air and slammed the roof. As far as what to do with the rims, put them in the recycler, or your local paper. Also there is a classified section on this site. My favorite option is ebay.com, I have sold a lot of crap there and it gets top dollar. I don't have any pictures, but I can tell you if you were to put the 10's, the tire itself gets wider and looks a lot better.
I'll be putting on a set of American Racing Baja's at about $150.00, it really the cheapest rim I found that was ok. But StoneCrusher were awesome but too high for my price. Hopefully I will be able to sell my 16x8 American Raving, AR23. If you know anyone that want's them, let me know please. e-mail: surfcasters(No Email Addresses In Posts!) I will also try e-bay.
Thanks again for your help and hopefully I can repay you for your kind advise.
If there is a discount tire around where you are they will match any price that you can find on the internet no questions asked. I found eagle 589's for 98 bucks a wheel and the matched that price no problem. I would do so looking on the internet and see what you can find. Good luck...
Unfortunately I just came back from the tire shop and he said that the 10" rims will not workout fine for my truck as the tires will rub on the inside! DAMIT!!!!!!! There goes my plans.
