Has any noticed the fuse labeled “customer access” on the new Super Duty? I would like to make a connection (power for CB) to this if indeed it is an extra fuse for that purpose.
Thanks…
For accesories I like to go under the dash and get hold of a wire off the key sw or hot all the time and strip 1/2 inch solder new wires to it and a spare or two and use the fuse that came with the radio or whatever..look here for wires. http://bulldogsecurity.com/New%20Wir...dfseries03.htm
Welcome to the ford forums!!!!have fun
Thanks for the reply 99F350SD. I just traded my 96 4x4 SD 7.3 for this one. I did as you said on the 96 but I saw this customer access fuse and thought how neat, they actually gave me a fused circuit. I got up under the dash last night and looked around. Nothing was obvious as to where I can get the circuit though. Maybe I will remove the whole fuse panel so I get a better look around.
My 99 has that its a key on cust acc Lb/pink wire. your color may be different. Mine is fuse 27 yours is prob diff.
I don't know where on earth they run the wire.
If you want to be able to run the CB with the engine off, key off, fuse 101 is a good one. It's a nice 30A fuse for the trailer electric brake feed (that I never use.) I took the fuse block out (just 4 bolts) and tapped into the big red wire at 101 that way you have a fuse protected line. (Take the 30A fuse out, no power to the radio.)
The fuse 29 Customer access wire was white with a light blue tracer on mine. It was about 2 feet up the bundle of wires going to the ODB II plug, I don't think it was a part of the bundle though. It just had a piece of electrical tape on it and hanging their.
If you don't know there is also 4 wires already run through the firewall, mine are taped to the wires that run to the hood on the drivers side. Not sure where they are under the dash but if you find under the hood you can see where they go through the firewall.
I'm going to run a battery hot under the dash to a terminal strip for a constant hot and then through a relay to another terminal strip. The relay will be controlled by the Customer access wire.
I'm pretty sure I have my facts straight but it's always a good idea to test it first.
Well I dropped the fuse panel last night. I was able to see the wires you are talking about that feed through the firewall. I then removed the connector that seems to go the fuses 23?-33? (somewhere in there). I took an ohm meter and put one end on fuse 29 and found the pin on the connector that matched. It is a yellow wire with a thin black tracer. I looked all over and could'nt find the other end. I didn't look under the hood because I don't need it out there. Fuse 29 is just a 10AMP but that is plenty. Oh well, maybe someone will get a chance to talk to someone at Ford and get the details.
Ok I was able to get in contact with a Ford Fleet guy on this subject. I won't say how but here is what he said for the 04 and probably other years also.
Circuit 294 (White with Light Blue Stripe) can be found by following these steps:
1) Remove Fuse Panel Cover (below steering Column)
2) Feel along the lower edge of the Instrument Panel (dash) and find the diagnostic connector
3) With a flashlight, shine the light into the openning for the fuse panel and aim the light at the diagnostic connector
4) You will see a wiring harness. Follow it with the light. About half way up, you will see a blunt cut wire. That is circuit 294.
I hope this helps others. I am sure I will end up running a wire direct from the battery inside to a terminal block for other connections eventually but this will get me started.
