Transmission Clicking

Hello again. I noticed a clicking sound the other day that sounded like dry lifters. I just changed the oil and made sure it was full. It was. I took it in to the dealership and they didn't know what it was based on the sound. A few hours later they called and said it was the trans. It has 76,000 miles on it. I bought trans fluid and a new filter a few months back but it's been very cold here in Baltimore. Any idea what it could be?? It drives fine. I actually drove it for a week with the clicking. Anyone experience this before???
Thanks
Eric

Anyone? I have to make a decission on throwing a new tranny in myself or having the dealership rebuild it. The third option would be to trade it in.....I don't have the time or money to keep fixing it...
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Eric

easpilman, I have the same symptom as you described. I have had this for the last 20K miles and havent had a problem. I have 106K on it now. Was present as well after I changed the fluid. The sound appears to be coming from the torque converter area on mine. So what did the ford dealer tell you what the problem actually was other than "uh I think its the transmission"?

They said, "it's the transmission - we will not know exactly what it is until we tear it apart." So, I'm going to pick it up today and put some lucas trans fix in it. If it was just the torque converter, I would be very happy. But how to check without tearing it apart???
Besides, ford sells new trannys for $2200 with a $1000. If I need a new tranny, I'll do it myself and save at least $1000.

It only clicks at idle. And not always. When I took it in to the dealer, I had to jump the revs up and let it idle to happen.
