Reprogramming 4R100 or Transcommand?
>unit, machined from stainless, is half the price!
And it works for ALL 4R100's and not just the Lightning as listed at the store?
I'll update after it is installed.

lately and unfortunately my time is more valuable than a few bucks, so I am having it installed (for shame
). I don't have time or access to a dyno, but I'll try to get out and record some before and after 0-60 times. Evaluation of the Transcommand will be subjective and I don't have a trip with the trailer planned until April
, so that will have to wait as well.-V10gunner

Yup, this is definitely the place to be. Us Super Duty folks seem to stick together.

Where are you located. I live only 2 miles away from Level 10 in Glenwood so you must be pretty close to me. Stop in and see Pat sometime and tell him that Steve Celentano recommended you from the site and he will give you all the good and bad info about our 4R100 trans. But definetly think about having him do some work on your trans because it is well worth it. a night and day difference when he did the shift kit on my 2000 L 4R100. Later, 95rcobra.

Not fully understanding the problem of soft shifts, I thought ask some questions:
Oh firstly, I have 2001 V10 4x4, Crew Cab, SB. Tow 5500 lb trailer
I've noticed that in 2-3 and 3-OD, it takes a while before the torque converter locks. Is this what is meant by soft shifts?
If not, do any of the mods make it lock in faster?
When shifting from 1-2 I haven't noticed much delay in shifting. So I'm trying to understand what the soft shift is.
Also, I think I'd like the torque converter to lock in 2nd. The last few miles of my arrival to campsites is always on steep roads, have to go slow, but it seems like the torque converter should be locked. Any comments?
and finally, are there any negatives for improving the soft shifts (or a more brainless question, why didn't Ford fix it)?
thx

No, the soft shift describes the slow, lazy shift of the transmission, along with the loss of power during the shift.
>If not, do any of the mods make it lock in faster?
No, the computer controls the lock. You need electronics (ie, chip) to lock it faster.

If you put in a shift kit or chip, you'll see what is meant by delay. Its a night and day difference.
>Also, I think I'd like the torque converter to lock in 2nd.
That would require custom programming.

Conjecture:
Ford purposely made the shifts soft for two reasons: the average consumer doesn't complain about the shifts and because some trannies have an inadequate valve. Rather than fixing the shift valve, they programmed the computer to soften the shift. A software change is free, whereas a better valve would cost them money.
