I posted a couple of days ago when I was trying to figure out what size rear end I have in my pick-up. I later called two of our local Ford Dealers with some questions before ordering the parts I will need to have my differential upgraded to trac-lock. Somehow they could give me the part number, but they could not tell me the spline count on the axels. I'm thinking about buying a used carrier and I can't seem to get a straight answer as to if the axel is a 28 or 31 spline.
My diff. tag reads
S828d
55 88 OF26
By the way, I am going to be putting in a new posi in mine. Eaton unit. I will put pics up once it is all complete, and hopefully I wont be shopping for a new rear end
If your going to pay for a locker, get the best most indestructible one you can buy. Since my Auburn has been burning out I've been doing some research. The Detroit Locker is the absolute strongest and longest lasting locker out there. A little pricey at 550.00 but worth it all day long.
Eaton's are supposed to be even wimpier than my Auburn.
Steeda is installing a new one next Tuesday. At least Auburn warranty's their diff for 4 years, so if you ever need a new one, it only costs 85.00 instead of 350.00. Well worth it. Auburns aren't the strongest, but they sure are the most streetable and smooth diffs you can buy. And they lock up instantly.
The 4 year 85.00 warranty is nice too, just in case you burn one up.
Here's a link to a site that lists all the available lockers out there. Hope this helps.
