I'm going to try and replace the stator in the distributor of my '94 F150 with the 5.0 engine, what does it take to do this? Thanks!

Is that the EEC IV distributor with the module on the side? And the stator is the black thing that the Hall effect rotor vanes go through? If so, I just looked at the one out of my 89 and it looks like you wuold have to remove the gear and retainer thing on the lower shaft to get the shaft out because the stator assembly appears to surround the shaft in there. I started to take the gear off mine and it didn't want to move. I'm sure that with a puller and maybe some heat it would come off, but getting it back on with the roll pin holes lined up might be something else again. IMHO, a rebuilt distributor might be a better deal.

Thanks for the reply!! -Justin, just for the record it was over 12 hours since I posted my question-in was around 630am-no biggie.
And I'm inclined to get a complete reman. distributor as well, anyone got any feed back on these, as to what brand to get ahold of??? Thanks!

I just replaced mine a couple of weeks ago.

If the only thing that's bad is the pickup, it's not worth getting the whole distributor. the pickup cost me under $20.00 where the whole distributor was $60.00

It's not hard to change. You do need the special tool to remove the ignition module on the side of the distributor. ($5 at your Favorite auto parts store.

c96drumm is correct, you need to remove the gear and retainer in order to remove the shaft to get to it. they are attached to the shaft with pins. Use a nail to push the pins all the way through and the gear and retainer will slide right off the shaft. Note the otientation of the gear so you can put it back the same way.

Once the shaft has been removed, you can easily get to the pickup and replace it.

My gear is stuck on there pretty darn tight. I'm replacing my distributor because the shaft doesn't turn smooth and easy. If I did get it apart to clean, I have no idea what the bushings are supposed to be lubricated with, and no new bushings available, either. So, I guess it's a rebuilt for me...
