Need help with gauges

This past weekend I put a '55 cab on my '56 F600. Cab is in much better shape, all good glass, not a see thru floor, etc. I am trying to use the stock '55 gauges and can't seem to get temp. to work. Brand new sending unit. Replaced all wires. I have the 12 to 6 voltage resistor in line to the gauge from power. What am I doing wrong? I will also be trying oil pressure when the new sending unit gets here tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Re: Need help with gauges

I don't know why the gauge is not working. It sounds like a simple change, but here are some questions to ponder...

Did the 55 gauges work before you changed the sending unit or before you changed to 12 volts? Are you sure the sender is for a 55 truck (6 volt sender) and not a 56 (12 volt sender)? Did you use any kind of sealant on the sender threads? Did you check with a multimeter to be sure you have only 6 volts coming off the voltage drop to the gauge? Have you checked continuity of the wire going to the sender with an ohmmeter?

Connect the sending unit connector to ground:

- If the pointer goes to the full opposite position - the sending unit is deffective.

- If the pointer stays in same position:

- ground the terminal on the back of gauge.
- If the pointer moves, the problem lies in the wiring.
- If the pointer does not move, the problem lies in the IC Volt Reg or the gauge
- If voltage is present at the IC Volt Reg, the gauge is defective.
